Join the lab!
A message from Misty:
I see research in my laboratory as a way to engage students in learning science and help them become scientifically literate individuals. One of the best things about being part of a research laboratory is learning how different people approach and solve problems.
The two major goals I have for my research laboratory are to: 1) advance knowledge about Gcn5-related N-acetyltransferase proteins, and 2) provide a space where all people who are interested in science (even if they are not sure if they want to make a career of it) can be in community.
If you join the lab, you will perform authentic research, which means we are trying to solve real-world problems we do not know the answers to.
There are several reasons why this is important:
it allows us to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in the field,
it helps us develop our critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and
it provides a different setting for us to work and learn and thrive in a diverse community with common goals.
So, what should you do if you are interested in joining the lab?
First of all, don’t feel like you have to know everything before you come talk to me. My motto is “if you are willing to learn, I am willing to teach you.”
Secondly, think about whether you have time to dedicate to this endeavor. Experiments can take some time, so you will probably need 12-15 hours per week available. If you are not sure, we can still have a conversation to figure out if it is possible.
Finally, send me an email (see contact page) to let me know you would like to set up a time to talk.
